Loito Oy: A Story Rooted in the North
Loito Oy was established in 2021 when we moved to Mikko's mother's home in Sodankylä. The old buildings and unique landscape of the Hampputörmä area, located next to the local history museum, inspired us to do something in the area, leading us to found Loito Oy.
Loito is strongly connected to the Hampputörmä area and its spirit. Here, you can still experience the northern tradition firsthand. The company's name, Loito, originates from the Northern Sámi word "loaidu," which refers to the side space of a "kota" (traditional Sámi tent) or the area on both sides of the fireplace where one rests, lounges, and stays close to the fire.
The Othala rune in our logo signifies heritage, home, and rootedness. It symbolizes both material and spiritual inheritance passed down from generation to generation. The logo's shape is based on the signature of Susanna's father, who was a painter.
Loito is more than just a company. It's a story that springs from roots, a connection to a place and its people. It is a northern space where one can breathe, rest, and feel a sense of belonging.
